INTRODUCING// FORAGE BOW TIES
Submitted by Mallory on Fri, 01/27/2012 - 16:49We are excited to introduce you guys to FORAGE Bow Ties, our newest addition to the shop. These eclectically classy bow ties created by Shauna and Stephen (of Something’s Hiding In Here) are self tying, adjustable in length and hand made using vintage or deadstock fabrics. Their name in fact comes from the act of foraging for the fabric as they say finding the perfect one is always quite the hunt. All of the bow ties are limited edition and have a discrete vintage woven label sewn in for authenticity sake.
If that hasn’t sold you on them already then perhaps the attention to detail that can be seen in every aspect of the FORAGE Bow Ties brand, from the product to packaging should. Each bow tie is shipped in a printed mason box with metal tab closures and packed with shredded kraft paper to ensure each bow tie’s safe delivery to it’s new home. Now, if you still find yourself feelings skeptical of the bow tie then please read on to hear Stephen’s wise words on the topic:
“Why bow ties? They’re the most practical form of neckwear. They don’t interfere with various working methods like a dangerous, dangling neck tie. It was out of necessity for safe neck accessorizing that we created our own collection of bow ties..”
Who can argue with that?

LIFETIME COLLECTIVE// INTRODUCING NEW WMNS DESIGNER JUDITH FELLER
Submitted by Mallory on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 16:58Like our adored customers and Slaysh itself, many of our brands are beginning to grow-up. Lifetime Collective is no exception proclaiming themselves a “work in progress,” as they too are an ever changing and far from finished dream. Their wish to be a receptive, ever adapting brand has been realized this year with their addition of Judith Feller.
Judith is a Vancouver based designer best known for her independently designed and manufactured clothing line - lily+jae. lily+jae sold all over North America and Asia even attracting the attention of A-listers such as Lykke Li and Lily Allen. Feller’s original break into the industry was as a design intern with the well loved Vancouver based retailer, Aritzia. Her next project? Kicking up Lifetime Collective’s new Spring/Summer 2012 women’s collection. Our reaction: fantastic.
Judith believes in a fashion/function balance and appoints American actress Jean Seberg as her style icon (famous in 50s/60s). She’s created a new woman for Lifetime, Selby, who brings about a subtle change to the women’s line, one that will catch the eye of the new Lifetime customer but also keep the OG-Lifetime-lover hooked.
We think she did a kick-ass job of exactly that. Below please enjoy a sneak preview of a few of pieces from Judith's debut Lifetime Collective line that will be here for spring.

Spring Trends
Submitted by Sarah Hyde on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 11:54In reality we still have over a month to go before we can really say that spring is here but since today feels a little bit like spring, with the positive temperature reading on the thermostat, let’s talk about the warmer weather and hot trends to come. Spring product has already started to arrive so I want to give you the heads up on what trends you will be seeing in and around Ottawa and at Slaysh of course.
Girls will be seeing alot of prints. We saw the Navaho inspired patterns already but this ever popular look has evolved for spring to showcase a variety of ethnic inspired patterns. The garments will focus on rich, vibrant colours, perfect for the warm weather to come. If you are feeling brave this spring try mixing and matching different patterns and prints together. Just remember, chose a colour that is consistent throughout the pieces and you can pull off pairing prints together. If you aren't feeling daring you can show aspects of this trend in your accessories.
SPRING 2012// POINTER PREMIUM FOOTWEAR
Submitted by Mallory on Mon, 01/23/2012 - 14:52For Spring 2012, Pointer is debuting a higher-end, premium footwear range featuring even higher quality construction and materials. These simple, London-designed casual shoes will feel like a breath of fresh air this summer after trekking around the snowy city of Ottawa in bulky winter boots for what already feels like months.
To keep us excited about the warm months ahead we’re introducing some of the great Pointer Footwear styles that will be gracing the shelves of Slaysh this spring.
For the ladies we’ve got Eliza, Janis and Patricia.
Eliza is inspired by the nurse shoes of the 60s and is named after Eliza Mahoney, the first African-American professional registered nurse.
Janis is named after none other then Janis Joplin herself. This wedge is designed to take you from office to outdoor concert should the mood strike.
Patricia is an open lace high top with espadrille foxing that takes its influence from the 60s scooter shoe and is named for Patti Smith.
HOW TO // WEAR A SCARF
Submitted by Mallory on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:06
There are a million ways to tie a scarf though admittedly some variations suggested by online tutorials... suck.
They tend to be overwhelming (50 Ways To Wear a Scarf!) or poorly executed (though there are always a few good exceptions). We sorted through the rubble for you and found a style we love, though we can't say the same for the entire outfit.
This blog post is meant as a baby step for those of you looking for a little bit of inspiration and perhaps even a touch of guidance. One suggestion, one wrap to master. This relatively straight forward wrap approach works wonderfully once you give it a few attempts in front of a mirror for adjustments.
Read these easy to follow instructions and then give it a whirl.
